Video Game Consoles, Old Friends |
Back in the last century, the term video game consoles equaled the term
video game systems.
Video games
consoles were, and essentially are, the single most important part of
the video games
playstation,
the essential piece of hardware enabling the whole process of playing video games operate at all.
There have been all
kinds of video game consoles designed since the beginning of the video
gaming boom, different brands and models often becoming the topic of
many a vivid discussion between inspired gamers. In any gaming
community or club, the first one to own the newest of the video game
consoles currently on the market immediately became a star of the crowd.
Nowadays, in the era of computer video games, the term 'video game
consoles' is used to describe exactly a part of the video
game system, not
all of that, which is sensible and reasonable after all the evolutions
the video game consoles and systems have undergone since their
introduction. The first video game consoles on the market really had
extremely simplistic mechanics keeping them running and were suited to
play simple games like Pong.
Then the second generation of video game consoles came along,
gratifying the growing gaming community by the possibility to play
games presenting a greater challenge - all thanks to Fairchild Video
Entertainment System. This second generation originates from the year
1976. And then, later, there was the year 1983 and the birth of the
third generation of video game consoles, for which we have Nintendo video games
to thank.
Since then, there were four more changes - four more generations.
Currently, the video game consoles of the seventh generation dominate
the market - it has been happening since 2005, in fact. The brands that
dominate the seventh generation market are Nintendo (predictably), Sony
Playstation3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. Funny enough, the last, despite
having introduced the seventh generation video game consoles first, is
the least popular!
